Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have a glossy finish that leaves a "soft tint" behind while being hydrating, feather-resistant, and offers "sheer-to-medium coverage." It has a a thinner, more watery texture initially, which developed to something smoother and plusher without being too tacky. This helped the product stay in place and be bleed/feather-resistant while having longer-wear, but it was still comfortable to wear.

The shades offered medium coverage, which was somewhat buildable to higher coverage if desired. They applied evenly for the most part and didn't emphasize lip texture. The formula was moderately hydrating over time, and the short shade range performed consistently--they lasted over six hours and left a soft stain behind that lingered for another couple of hours.

Mauve Wives Fenty Beauty Mauve Wives Gloss Bomb Cream ($19.00 for 0.3 oz.) is a muted, medium mauve with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one layer, which applied evenly and spread easily across my lips, but there was a bit of product that settled into my lip lines–not quite enough to be noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The texture was non-sticky, smooth, and plush without being too thick, though I felt like it was thicker than ideal for building up color as a second layer did feel noticeably thick and heavier.
