Guerlain #29 Rouge G de Guerlain Matte Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage that could have applied more evenly to my lips, though a lot of it was a reflection of the finish and formula. The texture felt smooth, lightweight, and more velvety, so it glided comfortably across my lips but didn’t feel emollient.
The issue I had was the product separated along my lip lines and looked almost “crumbly” all-over my lips. It wore well for five hours but settled more noticeable into my lip lines over time, while the formula felt lightly hydrating.

The Matte formula is supposed to have a "semi-matte" finish that has "the perfect balance between hydration and vibrant color" and contains "hylauronic acid and blurring powders" to help "smooth and volumize the look of lips." The coverage was semi-opaque to opaque, somewhat buildable, but there was enough slip that it was better to keep it two layers or else I experienced the color clumping up on itself and becoming more uneven in overall application. The texture was velvety and thin, I get that "blurring powder" feel that some of the recent matte formulas have had in them--a little "dry" and more prone to clinging on my lips. They wore between three and six hours but fade evenly and more red-based shades left faint stains behind. I didn't find any of them hydrating, and some of them felt drying to me. They had the typical violet scent but no taste.
For me, Rouge G was all about making my lips look better: smoother, plumper, and delivered good wear with a hydrating formula, but the Mattes left me wanting, as they weren't hydrating, didn't smooth out my lip lines for the most part, and felt a bit tight to wear after a few hours. One of the tell-tale signs of a drying formula is during the swatch-a-thon; given that there were only 11 shades to swatch, it should have been easy, but my lips felt a little raw afterward, which is typical of swatching more drying formulas for me.

Guerlain #30 Rouge G de Guerlain Matte Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium orange-copper with strong, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, though it was shy of full coverage and didn’t seem to build up with a second layer. The texture felt lightweight, smooth, and velvety as it applied fluidly across my lips, but it wasn’t the most flattering formula to wear.
The color pulled away along my lip lines and looked a bit speckled, almost like it was bubbling up in places, which resulted in this very faint patchiness. In person, it just looked like it wasn’t as even as it could be, whereas in person, the texture was more apparent. The color stayed on decently for five hours but started having more noticeable settling into my lip lines after three and a half hours. The formula felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Guerlain #31 Rouge G de Guerlain Matte Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark rosy pink with strong, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging or dragging during application.
The lipstick had a lightweight, more velvety consistency so it felt like it glided with ease over my lips but didn’t feel slippery or “wet” during wear. This shade applied better than some, but it just didn’t lay as smoothly nor was as forgiving of my lip lines/minor lip texture imperfections compared to the original range of Rouge Gs (and this formula is supposed to do the same with respect to smoothing). The upside was that the color didn’t settle into my lip lines further while worn, so it was only visible in the close-up photos but not in person. It lasted well for five hours and felt lightly hydrating while worn.
